'O Thaayi Laali Thaayi….Bhoomi Thaayi' was song sung by Dr. Rajkumar for Hoovu Hannu made in 1993. The film, an adaptation of the novel Triveni, had Lakshmi, Ajay Gundu Rao, Vyjayanthi and Baby Shyamili in the lead and was directed by S.V. Rajendra Singh Babu. The song was featured on Ajay Gundu Rao, son of former Chief Minister R. Gundu Rao. The song was for a scene where the hero loses his father.
Now, a decade and half after the movie released, music director R.P. Patnaik is using the same song for Vamshi featuring Dr. Rajkumar's son, Puneeth Rajkumar. Incidentally, Lakshmi who has acted in Hoovu Hannu, is also acting in Vamshi. The song is featured on Puneeth. It has become very emotional for Puneeth to act in the scene, since his iconic father is no more and the song is about a hero who has lost his father. Moreover, it is sung by his father Dr. Rajkumar himself.
Vamshi is made by Puneeth's home banner and they have requested permission from director S.V. Rajendra Singh Babu for using the song. This was a tightly-kept secret and not even the music CDs and cassettes mentioned the song. It is heard that it was the idea of director Prakash to use the song and the producer Raghavendra Rajkumar approved. Now there is news that real star Upendra has done a voiceover for a particular portion of Vamshi.
