Gulabi Talkies, directed by noted director Girish Kasaravalli, which recently won the award for Best Film at the Ocean’s Film Festival, has been selected to participate in the Middle East International Film Festival (MEIFF). This is the only Indian feature film to participate in this festival this year, which will be conducted from October10 to 19.
The event organizer, Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (ADACH), announced that Gulabi Talkies will be competing with films from 14 other nations for the prestigious Black Pearl award which carries prize money of $200,000. Another short film from India Sukriti’s Sundays directed by Vasanthnath will also participate in the event.
Gulabi Talkies, which is about a midwife named Gulabi, has won much appreciation among critics. Gulabi, who is passionate about films, finds solace in watching movies after her husband deserts her. At first she goes to the cinema hall to watch films and later brings home a TV. Slowly, her neighbours and husband join her and start watching films with her.
