Producer N.M. Suresh, who likes to experiment with different types of cinema, is very busy these days. He has just finished Gandhi Smiles, which belongs to a different genre and announced a new film titled Cheluveye Ninna Nodalu with Shivarajkumar, which will be a commmercial film. He has just started Karanji with Vijaya Raghavendra and Bollywood actress Gauri Karnik. Gauri came into the limelight through the film Sur. Although Sur was not a big hit, her performance was noticed.
Karanji is being directed by debutant Sridhar, who has worked as a script associate for several films. The film went on the floors at Nandi Theertha Temple at Malleswaram on April 27th.
Karanji is termed as a musical film where Raghavendra plays the head of a music band. He is a guitar player and Gauri is a singer. The film has seven songs and six bits rendered by music director Veera Samarnath. Veera Samarth has worked with ace composers and singers like Ravindra Jain, Suresh Wadkar, Ismail Durbar, Shuba Mudgal and played the tamboora in Pandit Bhimsen Joshi's recitals. Karanji focuses on the musical tradition in Karnataka; Veera Samarth has taken it as a challenge to come up with good scores. He says that the music of Karanji will be the best music of the year.
Cinematography is by Guruprasad, who has worked as assistant cameraman in several films.
