Director Ravi Srivastava continues to be at loggerheads with the Censor Board. His latest film Maadesha featuring hat trick hero Shivarajkumar is all set to grace theatres next week, but with an ‘A’ certificate. The fact that all his previous films (Deadly Soma, Ganda Hendathi and a Boy Friend and Rajeev… Gandhi Alla) were all in censor trouble gives him the dubious distinction of being a controversial director.
Maadesha is produced by Goverdhana Murthy at a whopping cost of Rs. 7 crores. The film has cinematography by G.S.V. Seetharam and music by Mano Murthy. Shivarajkumar, Ravi Belegere, Ravi Kaale and others are in the lead roles.
Earlier, the Censor Board had refused to award a certificate to the film due to its extreme violence but later altered the decision after the producers concurred to their view and edited certain scenes from the film. Incidentally, Shivrajkumar, while speaking at the ‘muhurat’ of Hodimaaga, said that the climax scenes, which have become the centre of the controversy in Maadesha, are in accordance with the attitude of the characters throughout the film. He said that except his father’s films from the 60’s to 2000, not many films made a social change.
