Director Mahesh Babu’s third film, Prajwal and newcomer Andrita Ray starrer Meravanige is getting good response from the box office. It is being appreciated for its fresh theme and the compact narration. Mahesh's earlier films are Akash and Arrasu; he is being called one of the most talented upcoming directors.
The story of the film was originally written for Puneet Rajkumar by Janardhana Maharshi, Mahesh Babu revealed to a website. Since Puneet was busy with another project, Mahesh Babu decided to do it with Prajwal. The usual ingredients of commercial pot-boilers (like family, mother sentiment and sister sentiment) are missing in the film which has an unusual and fresh theme. The story gets interesting when the lovers move out into the forest.
Mahesh Babu also expressed his happiness in getting a producer like Kantharaj, who wholeheartedly supported a different film with young stars.
