Mussanje Maathu is like enjoying a cool shower in dog days of the hottest summer. It is more refreshing than a cool drink or an ice cream. You feel refreshed after watching this film; your mind is not disturbed as it would after watching a movie with violence and sorrow. Mussanje Maathu is essentially a clean love story; most importantly, it is without violence or too much tears. So you can take your kids to this film without feeling embarrassed. Debutant director Mahesh is obviously aware of his social responsibilities, which are evident in his story selection and treatment.
Mussanje Maathu (Twilight Talk), aptly named is a radio programme anchored by Radio Jockey Pradip (Sudeep). In this evening programme, unhappy people get to share their problems with Pradip, who counsels them through his soothing talk and intelligent suggestions; he works hard towards resolving their issues and brings smiles on their face. All kinds of sad and depressed people, including auto drivers and handicapped people, call up the show and draw courage from Pradip's soothing counselling.
The real story begins when Tanu (Ramya), one of Pradip's fans, faces personal problems and telephones Pradip for advice. What is her problem? After the death of her mother, Tanu's father started to treat her cruelly, so she left her house, is feeling lonely, unhappy and guilty. The Pradip-Tanu interaction on the phone turns into friendship and Pradip starts getting romantic feelings for her. He does not express his true feelings to her for fear of losing her. With Pradip's mediation, Tanu and her father are able to patch their differences and come together. Tanu now adores her father and is willing to do anything to make him happy. So she decided marry a person of his choice; the news shocks Pradip.
Now, his untold love is in jeopardy, so Pradip is depressed and his radio programme is discontinued. Depressed fans throng the radio station, demanding the programme be started again. Pradip, hiding in deep agony, is found by his friends and brought to the radio station. He starts confessing his love, and this is cleverly transmitted on the radio. Elsewhere, Tanu and her groom, getting ready for marriage, listen to it. The groom, realizing Pradip's love for Tanu, brings her back to Pradip to be united in love for ever.
Although one can see traces of Lage Raho Munnabhai in Mussanje Maathu, the director shows his ingenuity by adding local flavours. Handsome and funky, Sudeep is at his best. Ramya is perfect in the role of the sorrowful daughter and looks stunningly gorgeous in the song sequences. Anu Prabhakar. Ramesh Bhat, Sumithra, Yethiraj, Meghasri, Praneshachar and Mandya Ramesh have given good support.
Debutant music director V. Sridhar has come up with beautiful songs; visuals by cameraman Sundernath Suvarna are breathtaking.
In short, Mussanje Maathu is all about the pain of untold love and is as beautiful as taking a pleasant walk in the twilight with a loved one.
