Review

Golden star Ganesh and filmmaker Yogaraj Bhat, the duo who gave us the blockbuster Mungaru Male, are back with another great entertainer, Gaalipata (kite) with the tag line "Manada Mugilalli Mohabbath" which means romance is in the mind. It is the first Kannada film to be shot in Super 35 mm format.

The tremendous success of Mungaru Male led to high expectations from Yogaraj Bhat's next venture. And when it was announced that Yogaraj Bhatt's new film, will have Ganesh in the lead, the expectations rose even higher. The excitement and hype reached fever pitch before the release of the film. But does Gaalipata really meet those expectations? Well, the answer is of course, a resounding Yes!

Gaalipata is a brilliant presentation by the director which will surely entertain Ganesh's fans with its freshness and melodious songs. The graphic work done of a wild boar in the film is excellent. In Mungaru Male, we often saw a rabbit; in Gaalipata, we get to see a wild boar.

Bored from their city life, three good friends Gani (Ganesh), Dignath (Dignath) and Rajesh Krishna (Kitty) make a move to a remote village, Mugilupete, where Dignath's grandfather has been residing. The three guys with different attitudes, hailing from different backgrounds, happen to meet different kinds of people in the village. Near to Dignath's grandfather's house lives an ex-military officer, Kodandarama (Ananth Nag) along with his wife Padma, two daughters, Neethu (Neethu) and Pavani (Bhavna Rao) and a daughter-in-law, Sowmya (Daisy Bopanna). His son died soon after his marriage with Sowmya. Since then, Sowmya has been staying in Kodandarama's house as his own daughter.

Dignath falls in love with Neethu and the calm and cool Kitty falls for Pavani, a tetchy girl. Gani, a talkative guy, falls in love with Sowmya. The three guys move with Kodandarama to the jungle on the hunt of a wild boar. Incidentally, the handicapped Kodandarama is able to regain the movement of his legs and lets the wild boar go away without killing it. This brings Kodandarama closer with the three young boys.

With the approval of Kodandarama, Dignath and Kitty plan for their marriages with Neethu and Pavani respectively. However, Sowmya declines Gani's proposal. She does not want to get married and plans to move to Switzerland for a job. Will Gani be able to win Sowmya's heart?

Yogaraj Bhatt proves yet again that he is a good storyteller. Cinematographer Rathnavelu brings in some exotic locations of Malanad, Agumbe, Thirththalli, Kodagu and Kodachadri Hills. Harikrishna's music is another major highlight of the film. Sonu Nigam's rendition 'Minchaagi neenu baralu' is the best track. His other song, 'Ondhe samane' and the 'Nadhim dhim thana' are the other good songs of the film.

Ganesh is the real scene-stealer. His dialogue delivery is superb. He excels in every scene, especially the emotional and the comedy sequences. In other words, he simply rocks! Ananth Nag has given an astounding performance.

Dignath's performance is first-rate. Rajesh Krishna is wonderful. Neethu is a complete natural. Bhavana Rao gives her best. Daisy Boppana is magnificent.

Technically, the film is brilliant with excellent work done by cinematographer Rathnavelu, National award winning editor Suresh Urs and award winning art director Shashidhara Adapa. A paisa-vasool film not to be missed!
